If you've been wondering how to make pita chips, then you've come to the right place! It is really easy and you can make the pita chips any flavor you'd like!

Pita chips sprinkled with parmesan cheese stacked in a pile on a wood cutting board with a container of hummus in the back with a pita chip dipped into it.
These pita chips are so crunchy and are perfect for dipping!

Are you a snacker? I am! So I try to turn to healthy snacks as much as possible. These homemade pita chips are my new favorite snack. They're easy to make, and you can flavor them in a variety of ways. These pita chips pair perfectly with my homemade hummus, too!

I like to try to come up with new snacks, so I'm not eating the same thing every day.  I get bored easily with that, and when I get bored with my healthier snacks I start craving brownies and cookies.  😉 One day I thought I would try homemade pita chips after having some with a friend.  I cut a whole wheat tortilla in 8 wedges and then cut those wedges in half (they'll pull apart at the "seam" pretty easily).  Then I brushed a little bit of olive oil on the pitas and sprinkled them with Parmesan cheese and garlic salt.  Less than 10 minutes later, I was enjoying a flavorful snack of pita chips dipped in hummus.

The varieties you could make with these really are endless.  I like to sprinkle the pitas with a cinnamon sugar mixture for a sweet treat.  Another option would be to spice them up with some chili powder.  Or what about a ranch seasoning?  Be creative and come up with your own favorite flavoring!

    Ingredients

    • whole wheat pita bread
    • olive oil
    • garlic salt
    • Parmesan cheese

    Instructions

    1. First, cut the pita bread in half, then cut each half evenly into 4 pieces. Separate each pita wedge at the seam, making 2 wedges.
    2. Next, place the wedges evenly spaced on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and brush them lightly with olive oil.
    3. Then sprinkle garlic salt and Parmesan evenly over the chips.
    4. Then bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes, until the edges of the pitas turn brown.
    5. Finally, serve them with hummus!

    Serving Suggestions

Serve with vegetables like carrots, celery, or jicma.

Make a plate with garlic hummus and pita chips.

Add these homemade chips to your Meat and Cheese Platter or to go with Baked Brie with Cranberry Sauce.

    Recipe Variation

Because we test all our recipes, we recommend that you make them once just as it is without substitutions or changes. Sometimes variations can go awry. Making our pita chips recipe as we have tested it will yield the best results. If you really want to get creative, here are some ideas for variations that might work well. (Please note, we have not tested these variations).

    • Use ranch seasoning instead of garlic and Parmesan.
    • Use taco seasoning for taco night and serve with guacamole.
    • Want to keep it simple? Use salt and pepper!

These pita chips are a great after school snack! If you love this recipe, I'd love for you to give it 5 stars!
