Sometimes, I just want to enjoy something sweet without feeling guilty.  So, when I want something sweet, whipping up a frozen smoothie is the way to go.  Frozen smoothies are not only delicious, but they're filling, too, which means I'm not snacking on cookies.

My Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie tastes just like a delicious ice cream milkshake without all the extra fat and carbs.

Bananas are a hit-or-miss snack in our house and sometimes we have too many.  I peel and cut them in put them in a freezer bag. They're great for all-kinds of smoothies.  The frozen banana helps lend the creamy frozen texture to this smoothie.

Of course bananas are full of potassium, but also vitamins B6 and B12.

Peanut butter contains loads of vitamin E and magnesium.

The combo is definitely a winner in both taste and nutritional value.

I prefer using local honey whenever I can, which you can often find in the local foods section of your grocery store.

(If you're looking for an alternative to basic banana bread, you might like to try my Chocolate Chip Coconut Banana Bread.)

    Ingredients

    • Frozen banana
    • Chocolate milk, chocolate soy milk, or chocolate almond milk
    • Creamy peanut butter
    • Unsweetened cocoa powder
    • Honey
    • Vanilla extract

How Do You Blend a Smoothie?

    1. Blend the liquid base first; milk, peanut butter, honey, and vanilla extract.
    2. Add frozen items like the banana and ice and blend until smooth.
    3. Add dry ingredients, such as the cocoa powder next.
    4. Add any remaining ingredients and process until smooth and creamy.

Pretty simple, right?  After you make this recipe once, you can tweak it to suit you individual taste.  My son likes it more chocolatey (no surprise there!)  For Mr. Juggling Act, I add a protein powder to help jump start his day.

Now that you've seen all the lovely photos, I have a confession. I'm not a big fan of bananas unless they're baked into something usually, but this Frozen Chunky Monkey Smoothie is out-of-this-world!  I hope you'll give it a try soon.

Do You Have to Add Ice to Make a Smoothie?

No, you do not need to add ice to make a smoothie.  Using frozen fruit - like the banana in this recipe - will give you the same frozen consistency with more flavor.
