Encouraging your kids to get out and explore nature while also introducing them to the fun of hiking is a worthwhile endeavor. However, it won’t take long before those small feet start to get a little bit tired. Before you know it, there will be an endless choir of I’m tired and are-we-there-yet whining!

So, to help avoid biting off more than you can chew with your next hike, I’ve helped put together a list of the best NH hikes for families that even your kids will get excited about.

Before we get into these hikes, I want to quickly mention this article I wrote about Visiting New Hampshire Parks which has tons of tips!

    1. Glen Ellis Falls

Pinkham Notch - Glen Ellis Falls

Glen Ellis Falls Trail is a short 0.4-mile hike near Gorham, New Hampshire, and features an excellent waterfall view. It is perfect for hikers of all skill levels. This trail is also dog-friendly as long as your dog is on a leash. In addition, this trail is excellent for bird watching during the summer and early fall and great for those looking to get out in nature.

    2. Beede Falls

    Sandwich - Beede Falls

Beede Falls is located in Sandwich Notch Park in Sandwich, New Hampshire, and is the perfect spot for relaxing and being in nature with your family. Beede Falls is a 0.9-mile hike that features a waterfall. This horsetail-type waterfall that you can go under gives you a pleasant waterfall experience and is an excellent place for a picnic or to escape into nature.

    3. Rocky Gorge

    Conway - Rocky Gorge

Rocky Gorge is located just outside of Conway in the White Mountain National Forest. The Lovequist hike is one mile and is a great easy NH hike for you and your family to enjoy. It features a lake and is great for hikers of all levels. The best time to visit this hiking trail is from April until November. Other hiking trails worth checking out include Lower Nanamocomuck Ski Trail, Paugus Link Trail, and Wenonah Trail.

    4. Flume Gorge

    Franconia - Flume Gorge

The Flume is a natural gorge that is 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The Flume Trail is a one-way two-mile loop that starts at the front of the Flume Building. The entire loop will take you about 1.5 hours, and while there is a lot of uphill walking and stairs, you will get to look up close at wildflowers, ferns, and moss. The gorge itself is beautiful and lets you experience the sounds of nature too.

    5. Sabbaday Falls

    Conway - Sabbaday Falls

Located in White Mountain National Forest, this is an easy NH hike with great places to wade and a great view of Sabbaday Falls. This hike is 0.7 miles, and the main feature of this hike is the waterfall. It’s great to hike from June until November, and dogs can also visit this trail on a leash. The trail is short and easy and a nice spot to go for an easy hike.

    6. Diana's Baths

    Conway - Diana’s Baths

Diana’s Baths is an easy half-mile hike that is great if near StoryLand or Conway Scenic Railroad. This hiking trail is a great spot to relax and recharge while getting away from the busy attraction-filled world near Conway. The Diana’s Baths are a must-see if you’re ever in the North Conway area and want to experience nature. During the summer this is a great place to relax and enjoy nature.
