If you love ranch, then this great recipe is for you!

❤️ Why You'll Love Our Recipe

Using fresh wholesome ingredients makes all the difference with any dish you're preparing. This Avocado Ranch Dressing is no exception.

I used sour cream and buttermilk with fresh avocado, garlic, and chives to make a totally scrumptious dressing that even the kids will gobble up!

Trust me when I say that adding avocado takes this to a whole new level above classic ranch dressing.

    ⏲️ Storage

This avocado ranch dressing will keep in the refrigerator for about 1 week. I like to keep it in a mason jar with the lid tightly secured, or another airtight container.

    ⭐ Ang's Tips

    • Avocados should be ripe but not overripe. If they are too ripe, the dressing will not keep as long.
    • Use fresh garlic for the bold taste traditional ranch recipes always have! However, you can also use garlic powder if that's all you have on hand.
    • While dried herbs are fine, using fresh dill and fresh chives will really make this recipe sing. You could even add a teaspoon of fresh parsley if you want.

    📖 Variations

For the best results, we recommend making this recipe for the first time just as we have written it. After all, this is how the recipe was tested.

However, this ranch dressing is easy to customize. If you really like the flavor of dill, add a little extra. You can experiment to make your own perfect version. Here are some other variations you might like to try.

    • Instead of sour cream, substitute plain Greek Yogurt.
    • Instead of dried herbs, use double the amount of fresh herbs.
    • Omit the buttermilk and you can use this as a nice thick creamy dip instead of a dressing.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

Adding this easy avocado ranch dressing to Cobb salads is my favorite way to enjoy it. Obviously, this avocado ranch dressing is pretty delicious on salads but give it a try on Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Tenders, or even Burgers.

It's perfect for spicy food that needs a little cooling down like these Chicken Wings! You can drizzle this over nachos or tacos, or use it as a sandwich spread instead of mayo. It's even good on pretzel bites!

    💭 Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about this homemade avocado ranch dressing recipe.

How can you tell if an avocado is ripe?

Give it a gentle squeeze. A ripe avocado should "give" slightly with firm but gentle pressure.

How do you ripen an avocado?

Place in a paper bag with a banana - it works!

What can I use if I don't have buttermilk?

If you don't have buttermilk at home you can substitute
1 tablespoon lemon juice OR vinegar plus enough milk to fill 1 cup.
Allow it to stand for a few minutes before using.

What can I use instead of sour cream?

Instead of sour cream, you can substitute the same amount of plain Greek or non-fat yogurt.

    Is avocado ranch healthy?

Avocado ranch dressing is healthier than most ranch dressings because it's full of healthy fats from the avocado.

The avocado ranch dressing looks yummy, but a major ingredient is missing: the avocado! How many for this recipe?

I contacted the sponsor to correct the recipe. It should be two ripe avocados. Thanks for your comment, MaryAnne!
