Ingredients
This is meant to be a brief overview of this great recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.
- Apples: Choose apples that hold up well in the oven, such as Braeburn, Cortland, Crispin, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Honey Gold, or Pink Lady.
- Blackberries: You can use fresh berries or frozen berries (there's not need to thaw frozen berries).
- Sugar: White sugar is used in the fruit filling, while brown sugar is used in the crumble topping.
- Lemon Juice: This adds brightness to the filling and helps make the delicious fruit filling.
- Cornstarch: Thickens the fruit mixture as it bakes.
- Flour: All-purpose flour works best in this recipe. You can also use Measure for Measure gluten-free flour.
- Old-Fashioned Oats: Because they hold their texture and shape well when baked old-fashioned oats are best in this recipe. However, quick-cooking oats will also work in a pinch. For a gluten-free dessert, use gluten-free oats.
- Butter: Unsalted butter means that you can control the amount of salt in the dish. Be sure to use cold butter for the best texture.
- Salt: Because salt enhances and balances the flavors of the other ingredients, it's important not to skip it in the topping.
- Spices: Cinnamon and nutmeg elevate the flavor of the overall dessert.
Variations: Use other types of berries or swap out the apples for pears to make different versions of this mixed fruit crumble.

Ang's Recipe Tips
✔️ The lemon juice will stop the apples from oxidizing and turning brown.
✔️ The process of macerating the fruit, allowing it to sit with the liquid and sugar, will help draw out the natural juices of the fruit and make a delicious syrupy mixture for the fruit filling.

What is the difference between a crisp, cobbler, and crumble?
Cobblers, crisps, and crumbles are all fruit desserts with some kind of topping.
Because it's topped with biscuit-like dough, cobblers are unique.
Crisps and Crumbles, on the other hand, are topped with streusel, made with or without oats. These terms are pretty much interchangeable now.
Storage
To Store: Leftover cobbler should be stored in the fridge. It will keep 3-4 days. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)
To Reheat: Microwave individual portions in 30 second intervals until heated throughout.
Serving Suggestions
The combination of flavors and textures in this dessert makes it a comforting treat, perfect for any occasion! Serve with ice cream or whipped cream on top.
I like to serve it warm, but my husband will eat leftovers straight out of the fridge when I'm not looking!
