    Watercolor Canvas Photo Project

This sweet Watercolor Canvas Photo Project is perfect for Valentine's Day. Imagine sending this to a loved one like a grandparent - I know my parents would love to have something like this to show off their grand babies!  It's a fun a simple project you can do with the kiddos. The total cost for this Watercolor Canvas Photo Project is just $4.23.

Materials needed for Watercolor Canvas Photo Project

    Materials

    • Watercolor paints (just the basic kid's crayola palette works!)
    • 1  8x10 Canvas
    • 1 piece of pink craft felt
    • Twine
    • Glue gun
    • Scissors
    • Paint brush
    • Clothespin
    • Small dish of water
    • Paper towel

    Instructions

First, decide if you would like to hang your canvas either vertical or horizontally. Then cut a heart shape from the pink felt.  An easy trick to get a uniform heart free hand is to fold the felt in half.  Start at the corner of the fold and cut a half heart shape.  Unfold the felt and you have a full heart!

Step 1 for Watercolor Canvas Photo Project

To paint the canvas like ours (you can do any design you want) simply choose a starter color, slightly wet the brush, swirl it in your color.  Paint a diaganol strip starting at the corner.  Repeat this using different colors until the whole canvas is painted.

NOTE*  The paint will bead up and seem as though it is not going to dry or "take" to the canvas.  It will.  Just be sure to let it dry.  Ours dried pretty quickly.  By time I was done painting the first few stripes were dry.

Step 3 for Watercolor Canvas Photo Project

Hot glue the heart onto the middle of the canvas.  Take caution using the hot glue gun, younger children should be assisted by a parent or guardian. Finish the canvas by laying a strip of twine across the front top, hot glue each end around the backside.

Step 4 Watercolor Canvas Photo Project

Then hot glue the clothespin to the twine.  This will hold the photo for your canvas.  Hot glue another piece of twine at each corner of the back (at the top) for hanging the canvas.

Now, find your favorite photo,  clip it with the clothespin and hang it on the wall!  The style we made is adorable for a girl's bedroom or as a keepsake gift!

    Other decorating options:

*Try painting the canvas in different shades of blue, clothespin a post card from your favorite tropical vacation and hang it in the bathroom!

    * With the canvas horizontal,  paint various shades of red, orange then yellow (starting with red at the bottom)  Hang a picture of a sunset for a 3 season porch.
