I adore slow cooking because it saves me a ton of time. Yes, low and slow is, well, slow, but I don't have to fuss with it. I have tons of slow cooker recipes because my slow cooker is probably my favorite kitchen appliance.

Not only is this shredded beef super easy, but it's mouthwateringly delicious, too.

And as if that wasn't enough, it's economical recipe too because you don't have to purchase the best cut of beef. As it slow cooks, the connective tissue breaks down. The result is a perfectly cooked tender beef that can be used in dozens of recipes.

    Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of this great recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

You only need a handful of simple ingredients for this slow cooker meal:

    • boneless roast beef, chuck roast, or round roast
    • beef stock or beef broth
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • onion soup mix

    Instructions

    1. Place the beef into the crock.
    2. Pour the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce on top of the roast.
    3. Add the onion soup mix.
    4. Set the slow cooker to LOW for 3-4 hours or HIGH for 6-8 hours.
    5. To shred the beef, place it on a cutting board and use two forks to pull the meat apart.

    Storage

To Store: Leftover slow cooker shredded beef should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)

To Reheat: Microwave individual portions in 30 second intervals until heated throughout.

To Freeze: Place the pulled beef into a freezer-safe container or freezer bag and label. Cooked frozen beef is best used within 3-4 months.

To Thaw: Remove from the freeze and allow to thaw in the fridge overnight.

    Variations

The first time you try any new recipe we recommend that you make it just as it is written on the recipe card since that is how the recipe has been tested. However, the next time you make our beef recipe, you might want to try one of these ideas:

Instead of the onion seasoning package, switch up the flavor by using 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning mix, Mediterranean seasoning, Italian seasoning, or even our famous cowboy steak rub.

    Serving Suggestions

There are so many amazing ways to use this shredded beef roast like casseroles, soup, salads, or tacos.

My favorite way to enjoy this is with brown gravy over mashed potatoes with glazed carrots on the side. It's a nod to my favorite slow cooker Italian beef roast.

For a Taco Tuesday gathering, substitute 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning in this recipe. Load up your taco bar with taco shells and all your favorite taco toppings like pico de gallo, sour cream, and refried beans. Leftovers make awesome burrito bowls, too.

This easy shredded beef is also one of my favorite things for a potluck. Not only does it feed a lot of people, but it's so versatile. Add your favorite bbq sauce to the meat and place slider rolls or full-size sandwich rolls alongside your slow cooker. It's a cinch! (I love using cherry BBQ or sweet and spicy BBQ sauce.)

You could also use sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce or the sauce mixture from our crockpot jelly meatballs.

How to Use Leftover Shredded Beef

    • You can use this in place of pulled pork in our pulled pork mac and cheese recipe!
    • Everyone loves this easy shredded beef enchilada recipe!
    • On busy nights, I grab some of these leftovers and toss the beef with store-bought or homemade tomato sauce to serve with spaghetti. Easy peasy!
