- In a bowl, combine the coconut oil and sugar.
- Add the peppermint oil and mix well.
- In a small bowl, transfer about ⅓ of the sugar scrub and combine it with the food coloring. Mix well.
- In a jar, start by layering the uncolored sugar scrub on the bottom of the jar, add the colored sugar scrub, and then top with the last bit of scrub.
- Keep at room temperature in an airtight container.
TIP: You can also mix this homemade sugar scrub up in your stand mixer, or using a hand mixer. I like this method also, as the sugar scrub gets really well combined that way.
I love the way the red and white look together - just like striped candy canes! You could also make this a peppermint swirl sugar scrub by placing the jar at an angle while filling it. Add a thinner layers and gently swirl as you go.
Variations
If you don't care for peppermint, you could swap out another scent, such as lavender or lemongrass. Different oils are good for different things; for example, peppermint is alerting while lavender is calming.

How to Use a Sugar Scrub
I use it in the shower. Similar to a salt scrub, the white sugar acts like an exfoliant to buff away dead cells and polishes your skin. The coconut oil really helps moisturize, too!
This is perfect during the winter months (especially in the Northeast!) because this time of year the cold dry weather wreaks havoc on your skin.
Wet your skin then work the sugar scrub into your skin using a circular motion, then rinse.

- 1 drop Red food coloring
