Ingredients
This is meant to be a brief overview of this Oreo Dirt Cake recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.
- Oreo Cookies: These are the stars of the show! I use classic Oreos, but the Double Stuff will work as well. Look for the 26.7-ounce 'Party Size.'
- Milk: To make the instant pudding, whole milk or low-fat milk is best, but you can experiment with other types of milk.
- Instant Pudding: I have made this with both French vanilla pudding and traditional vanilla pudding. Both taste wonderful, but I'm partial to the regular vanilla.
- Whipped Topping: Purchase tubs of whipped topping, like Cool Whip, from the freezer section at your grocery store. While I love homemade whipped cream, it doesn't hold up in a dish like this.
- Cream Cheese: Smooth and tangy, the cream cheese keeps the dessert from being overly sweet.
Optional: Add festive candies on top, like mini chocolate chips, chopped candy bars, or gummy worms. You can also add sprinkles if you want to match the theme of a birthday party or holiday.
Variations:
- Get creative with different Oreo cookie flavors. Mint, Peanut Butter, Birthday Cake, and Golden Oreo cookies would all taste great in this easy no-bake dessert.
- For chocolate lovers, substitute chocolate pudding for the vanilla pudding.
- Make it extra decadent with a drizzle of caramel sauce or chocolate syrup on top.
- Instead of making a large pan, add the creamy and crunchy layers to individual cups.
Here are a few fun ways to personalize your no-bake dessert for different holidays.
- top with Peeps chicks for Easter
- add spooky chocolate-covered strawberries for Halloween
- sprinkle candy conversation hearts on top for Valentine's Day

Ang's Recipe Tips
- Crush it. You can use a food processor to crush the Oreo cookies but don't pulverize them into dust. You can also place the cookies into a zip-top bag and use a rolling pin to crush them.
- Soften it. Soften the cream cheese before you begin. The simplest way is to place it on the countertop for about 30-45 minutes before you plan to use it. You can cut down on that time a little bit if you cut it into even slices. I don't recommend microwaving cream cheese to soften it because it won't soften evenly, and it's easy to accidentally melt the cream cheese.
- Don't over-mix. Overmixing will cause the whipped topping to deflate and the pudding to become tough. Use a rubber spatula to carefully fold the pudding and whipped topping together.
- Chill out. Allow the Oreo dirt cake to chill in the fridge for 3-4 hours for the flavors to all come together. My personal favorite is the second day when the Oreo crumbs start to soften into the creamy pudding mixture.

Storage
To Store: Leftover Oreo Dirt Cake should be stored in the refrigerator. Top it with a layer of plastic wrap and it will stay fresh for about 3-4 days.
