Last year, we visited the Ice Castles and it was just amazing! This year, we can't wait to go again!
The very first Ice Castle was built in Alpine, Utah, in the front yard of Brent Christensen. He was building an ice cave for his daughter and that is how the Ice Castles concept got started. Now Ice Castles are built in Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, and New Hampshire. There are also two locations in Canada.

What started as a backyard project for the creator's children has become a phenomenon across North America. Hundreds of thousands flock to these locations every year to see the stunning Ice Castles.
Each Ice Castle is unique, but all include ice-carved tunnels, archways slides, and even fountains. LED lights create a spectacular atmosphere.
The crews grow roughly 10,000 icicles every day and place them throughout the Ice Castle to provide something for the water to freeze to. Over time the icicles just get absorbed into the ice structure.
Each of the Ice Castles is a little over an acre, is all one giant piece of interconnected ice, and weighs more than 25,000,000 pounds! Visit the Ice Castles website for more information and to buy tickets.
How to Dress for Visiting the Ice Castles
Temperatures are, well, freezing, of course. Be sure to wear layers including snow pants, a winter coat, gloves and a hat.
My family has visited the NH Ice Castles twice and both times it was just fascinating (we stayed at Loon Mountain when we went).
The Ice Castles are perfect for children and families. It is especially enchanting for Frozen lovers. It's also incredibly romantic for couples. Photographers will enjoy taking unique photos, too.
