    Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of how to make chocolate hummus. For step-by-step instructions and a full recipe card (printable) with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this sweet recipe:

    • Canned Chickpeas: These are traditional in hummus. However, some readers have substituted black beans or garbanzo beans.
    • Cocoa Powder:
    • Milk: Use your milk of choice, cow, almond, and soy all work. For a thicker consistency, use less milk. Alternatively, use more milk for a thinner dip.
    • Sweetener: Use either honey or agave syrup.
    • Vanilla Extract: I highly recommend using a good quality pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
    • Optional: You can top your chocolate hummus with flaked coconut and/or mini chocolate chips for garnish if you like.

    Variations:

    • Substitute the honey or agave nectar for maple syrup.
    • For added nutrition, use ground chia seeds or milled flax seeds.
    • Add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, or other nut butters such as almond butter, or cashew butter, for a little added protein.
    • For a richer chocolate flavor, add two tablespoons of dark chocolate nibs.

It's also a nice addition to a Fruit and Cheese Platter when you're entertaining.
