This Homemade Mango Salsa is the perfect addition to any Mexican or cantina-style dish! It goes great on tacos, and can even be used to top a taco salad!

Even when you run out of chips to dip in this salsa, you’ll find yourself spooning out the remainder to eat. It’s seriously that good! You only need a few minutes to whip up this simple and easy mango salsa recipe.

Mise en place Mango Salsa Ingredients including red onions, jalapeno, and cilantro.

    Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this easy salsa recipe:

    • ripe mangoes - they should be soft to the touch, but not mushy
    • red onion - adds a sharp flavor to help balance the flavors
    • jalapeño - leave the seeds and membrane for more heat
    • fresh cilantro - if you don't care for cilantro, substitute fresh parsley
    • fresh lime - microwave the lime for 30 seconds then roll it on the counter top with the palm of your hand, which makes it easier to juice

You can make this recipe a day or two ahead of time to enjoy all week, but because this uses fresh fruits, you won’t be able to freeze it well.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

How do you cut a mango?

Before cutting a mango, you first want to check to see if the fruit is ripe, yet still firm. If your mango is overripe, it will be more difficult to cut into pieces and will turn mushy.

    1. In the center of your mango you will find a pit. You want to cut along the sides of this pit. Hold your mango on the side with the stem facing down. Using a sharp knife, cut your mango from the top down one side of the pit.
    2. Repeat to the other sides.
    3. Next, slice the mango flesh lengthwise and then back again widthwise. Try not to cut through your peel as best you can.
    4. You should be able to easily pull out the cut pieces, or you can spoon them out if you prefer.

    Serving Suggestions

This delicious salsa is great with chips, of course, but you can also serve it with grilled pork, fish, chicken, or steak.

It's also an awesome topping for Baja fish tacos, steak tacos, or (my favorite!) BBQ chicken tacos. Try it with tostadas, burritos, quesadillas - or just eat it with a spoon!!
