    Homemade Disinfectant Cleaner

    [published_or_updated] · by Angela Paris · Leave a Comment[affiliate_disclosure]

It's easy to make Homemade Disinfectant Cleaner. This simple DIY Disinfectant will help you keep your home clean!

    PIN FOR LATER

Making your own DIY disinfectant spray is pretty simple and easy to do. It's a great alternative to store-bought cleaners! I love this option because there are no harsh chemicals, no bleach smell (because there's no bleach!) and everything is biodegradable. It's truly a "green" cleaner.

    What is Castile Soap?

Castile soap is made with vegetable oils like coconut along with lye. This is a must for those who want to make green cleaning products - everything from shampoo and body wash to household cleaners and more. It is non-toxic and biodegradable. I like Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile soap which can usually be found online and in many stores.

    Cleaning with Vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is awesome for cleaning because of its acidity. It kills germs, but it is non-toxic. Vinegar is great for disinfecting because it is inexpensive and it kills many (but not all) types of bacteria and viruses.

It is important to note that white vinegar and distilled white vinegar are not the same. Whenever possible, use distilled white vinegar for cleaning.

    Using Essential Oils to Clean

Many people like using essential oils to clean. Honestly, I like including them in my homemade cleaning because they smell great!

Essential oils are said to have antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral and antifungal properties. Here are some of the best ones for cleaning:

    • lemon
    • tea tree (also known as melaleuca)
    • lavender
    • peppermint
    • sweet orange

While I use essential oils in this spray, they are optional. Learn more about oils from my friend Ashley here.

If you're taking proper precautions during this uncertain time - and you should - the best thing you can do is to frequently wash your hands. If you aren't able to get to soap and a sink all the time, you might also want to check out our Homemade Hand Sanitizer.

    How to Make Disinfectant Spray

    1. Into a spray bottle, mix the distilled white vinegar, liquid castile soap, and water.
    2. After that, add essential oils, if you want.
    3. Tightly screw the cover on and shake to combine all the ingredients.

    What should I disinfect?

Now you're ready to clean! So what are the most important areas? You want to be sure to clean all the surfaces that are touched the most often, such as:

    • facet handles
    • doorknobs
    • stair rails
    • countertops
    • light switches
    • remotes
    • refrigerator handles

I hope you get a chance to try out this "green" cleaner. I would love to know what you think - leave me a comment below if you do!
