    Attention busy mamas, this BBQ Chicken Sandwich recipe is for you. It's the ultimate weeknight meal. It comes together in just a few minutes and then cooks all day so it's ready for when the kids get hungry after school.

    We start with my delicious Crockpot Barbecue Chicken, add a few simple supermarket ingredients and serve with a simple side. Dinner is done!

    Making a big batch of this chicken is a great way to meal prep for the week! You can use this shredded chicken to make not only sandwiches but salads, quesadillas, tacos, and even pizza.

    🧂 Ingredients

    • boneless skinless chicken breasts
    • Sweet and Spicy Homemade BBQ Sauce (or store-bought)
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Brown sugar
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Smoked paprika 
    • Sandwich rolls
    • Butter
    • Cheese, optional
    • Cole slaw, optional
    • Pickles, optional

    🔪 Instructions

    1. In a large slow cooker, combine BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and salt and pepper.
    2. Add the chicken breasts to the crock and spoon the sauce mixture over the top.
    3. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours.
    4. When the chicken is done cooking, shred it using two forks.
    5. Butter 4 rolls and lightly grill until golden brown.
    6. Top each with BBQ chicken and any desired toppings like more Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce, cheese, coleslaw, or pickles. Serve hot.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

    Top your toasted bun with a large portion of shredded BBQ chicken about ⅓ cup. Add additional BBQ sauce to taste. Serve with crunchy coleslaw on top or on the side, if desired.

    How to Toast Buns

    To make these sandwiches really special, lightly toast the buns. Here's how:
    1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
    2. Butter each side of the bun.
    3. Place the buns with the butter side down into the skillet.
    4. Cook for about 30 seconds, then remove.

    Ingredients

    • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
    • 1 cup Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • salt and pepper to taste

    • 2 tablespoons butter

    Instructions

    • In a large slow cooker, add the BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
    • Then, add the chicken breasts to the crock and spoon the sauce mixture over the top.
    • Secure the cover and cook on HIGH for 4 hours.
    • When the chicken is done cooking, carefully shred it using two forks. Alternatively, you can put it into a stand mixer with the paddle attachment to break up the meat.
    • Butter 4 rolls and lightly grill until golden brown.
    • Top each with BBQ chicken and any desired toppings like more Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce, cheese, cole slaw or pickles. Serve hot.

    Notes

    Frozen chicken breast should be thawed before being cooked in a slow cooker.
    We do not recommend cooking chicken from frozen.
    Chicken should always be cooked to an internal temperature of 165-degrees F according to FoodSafety.gov.
    This can also be cooked on low for 6-½ hours.
