Baked potatoes make the best side dish - no dishes to wash! However, who has the time to wait for the oven to heat up and cook? That's why I like using short cuts like an air fryer.

With this method, you'll have fluffy potatoes with crispy skin in less than an hour. Of course, the total cooking time depends on the size of your potatoes.

    ⭐ Tips

    • Start by scrubbing and drying the potatoes. Dry potatoes will result in a crispier skin.
    • After that, rub a tiny bit of oil all over the potatoes - make sure you use an oil with a high-smoke point like canola or avocado.
    • The internal temperature of your potatoes should be 205º F.

    💭 Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions, and answers, readers ask about making baked potatoes in the air fryer.

What kind of potato is best for baking?

Russet potatoes - or Idaho potatoes - are the best baking potatoes because they're starchy and hold their shape while cooking.

How long do you cook baked potatoes?

Baking potatoes in the oven will take at least 60 minutes by the time your oven preheats, but you won't need that long in your fryer. I usually plan on 30-40 minutes.
Of course, the total time is dependent on the size of your air fryer, how big the potatoes are, and how many you are cooking at one time.

    Ingredients

    • russet potatoes
    • canola oil or olive oil
    • salt

    3. After that, put the potatoes into the slow cooker and sprinkle them with kosher salt.
    4. Set the air fryer to 400º F and set the timer for 25 minutes.
    5. Using tongs, turn the potatoes and return the basket to the air fryer.
    6. Set the time for another 10-15 minutes (depending on the size of your potatoes.
    7. Use a fork to see if the potatoes are cooked through. Adjust time as needed.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

In my opinion, the best part about baked potatoes is what you can add to them. Sour cream and chives are a classic for a reason, but you can get really creative with this baked potato recipe.

    Try one of these ideas:

    • Season simply with with sea salt and black pepper or try a fun seasoning mix like basil salt, Italian seasoning mix, or even ranch seasoning mix.
    • Cowboy Butter is so amazing on baked potatoes. It adds just the right about of buttery-garlicky goodness. It's also delicious with this copycat Benihana Butter.
    • To make a meal out of your baked potato, pile it high with leftover Pulled Pork and a drizzle of BBQ sauce.
    • Another great way to serve baked potatoes is to top it with leftover Chicken Chili and cheese.
    • Sprinkle leftover grilled bacon or bacon bits on the top.
