Since my children have been in daycare full time, and year-round, since they were just 9 weeks old, 'back to school' never seemed like an overly big deal to me... until now - more on that in just a moment.

Ethan will be going to first grade at the public school. Dun, Dun, Dunnnnnn!  No really, it's a big deal to me. You know how most moms freak out when their kid goes to Kindergarten? I never experienced that, but it's hitting me big time now!

    Ethan July

Maybe it's because Ethan has struggled this last year.  Or maybe it's just because it's a new school and there are big kids there - giant 5th graders!

As his mom, I want to both shield him from frustration and empower him to cope and grow.  It's not always the easiest thing, and more often than not, I feel like I'm waging a battle against protecting my 'little boy' and helping to grow into a productive, compassionate, successful 'big' boy.  I've said it time and again, but I didn't think parenting got 'hard' until the teen years.  Boy was I wrong!

So I'm going to put up my little printable and get excited for a 'back to school' and a new year.  For Ethan's sake.

My sister Kacey once said, "When done right way, parenting is not for the weak."  While she and I have very different parenting styles, that statement is one we can both agree on.  Parenting is hard.
