We love pulled pork (and sliders!) around here. The kids really love it, and I like it because it makes a ton. One pork shoulder or tenderloin can feed an army which means I can cook once and eat multiple times with a minimum amount of work.

Slow cooker meals are so easy and this one is one of my favorites.

I really love throwing it in a slow cooker and letting it go all day the day before a big gathering. So then, it's just a matter of warming it up and setting out dinner rolls to make sliders (perfectly sized for the kids) or large sandwich buns for the grown-ups. Easy peasy!

I enjoy making tweaking my favorite recipes to make new amazing dishes, like taking Classic Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Recipe and giving it a Korean-inspired makeover.

Our Asian version gives the pork a Korean flavor that's just delicious. Top the sandwiches with a little of our Asian slaw and you have my favorite twist on a Southern classic.  It's just so full of flavor, and so very easy!

I also love the Asian flavors in our Honey Garlic Slow Cooker Chicken and Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken.

Pork butt is especially good for pulled pork recipes because of the marbling.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Cut of Meat for Pork Sliders?

For this recipe, we have used pork butt, which comes from a section of the shoulder that has fat (marbling) running through it. As a result, pork butt has really great flavor.
You could also use pork shoulder, which has less fat.  These cuts do well with low and slow cooking.

    Can you Freeze Pulled Pork?

Yes! This recipe starts with 5lbs of meat, so it's ideal for feeding a crowd, however, it's also great for once-a-month cooking and freezer meals.

What temperature should pork be cooked to?

Fresh pork should always be cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees F according to FoodSafety.gov. Remember you always want to allow your pork to rest for three minutes.

Does meat need to be submerged in a slow cooker?

The pork does not need to be covered with liquid so you do not need to add additional water to this recipe. It will cook using the moisture in the Crock Pot.

    Freezing Tips

    • Put the pulled pork in a freezer bag, leaving about an inch at the top of the bag so there is room for the pork to expand as it freezes.
    • Be sure to seal it tightly.
    • Always label your bags with the recipe name and date so you know what it is later!

More Ways to Use Asian Pulled Pork

You can make loads of yummy snacks and meals using leftover Asian pulled pork, for instance:

    • salad with edamame, peanuts, and red bell peppers
    • noodle bowl with hoisin sauce and green onions
    • tacos with pineapple and tri-color pepper salsa

    Instructions

    1. Whisk together the marinade ingredients until well combined. Rub the pork with the marinade.
    2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
    3. Discard the excess marinade and place the pork into the slow cooker.
    4. To make the Korean BBQ Sauce, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the shallots until soft. Whisk in the chicken stock, ketchup, honey, soy sauce, and give spice powder.
    5. Cook until the sauce begins to thicken and then reduce.
    6. Remove from the heat and add the vinegar and sesame oil.
    7. After that, pour the sauce over the pork, and cover.
    8. Cook on low for 6 hours. (or 4 hours on high)
    9. Using two forks, pull the pork apart.

    How to make Asian Slaw

This purple cabbage slaw is my favorite thing to serve with Asian pulled pork!

    1. In a large bowl, combine the carrots and red cabbage. Set aside.
    2. In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and soy sauce until well combined.
    3. After that, pour the mixture over the carrots and cabbage and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with sesame seeds.
    4. When it's time to eat, place the frozen rolls on a lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake according to the directions on the package.
