If you're looking for a quicker recipe, try this Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin Dinner instead.

When it comes to a hearty comfort meal that's super easy, it doesn't get much better than our recipe for Slow Cooker Pork Roast with Apples!  In the Fall, all I want to do is eat foods that are rich in flavor and hearty... It's just good for my soul.

While pork tenderloin is often my favorite cut (like our Best Oven Roasted Pork Tenderloin Recipe), pork butt is incredibly easy to work with and tastes amazing.

A few years ago I started making this Slow Cooker Pork Roast with Apples recipe and it has become a family favorite. It is a delicious combination. There's something about the sweetness of the apple with the pork that is out of this world!

Oh, and if you have leftovers, use them to make leftover pork casserole, which is quick and easy to prep!

    Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of the apples and pork recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

    • Pork: For this recipe, I recommend pork butt or boneless pork loin.
    • Onions: Either a sweet onion or yellow onion we work. Cut them as large or small as you like.
    • Apples: I used both Fuji and Granny Smith apples because I like their crispy texture and the combination of sweet and tart flavors. Any sort of crisp apple will work for this recipe. Avoid using apples like MacIntosh, which will become mushy.
    • Beef Stock: You can also use beef broth or vegetable broth. You can also double down on the apple flavor and use apple cider instead.
    • Garlic Powder: Garlic adds nice umami to the recipe. If you'd like to use fresh instead, you'll need 3 teaspoons of minced garlic.
    • Kosher Salt and Black Pepper: Seasoning balances the dish and imparts flavor throughout. Salt also helps bring out the natural flavor of the pork.
    • Fresh Herbs (optional): Rosemary, thyme, and sage are all delicious with pork. My personal favorite for this dish is a little bit of rosemary, but a little goes a long way.

Slow Cooker Pork with Apples is a nutritious meal perfect for Sunday dinners.

    Ang's Tips

    • Use crisp apples for the best texture (see our list of suggestions above).
    • Don't overcook the recipe, or the apples become mushy. 6 hours on low is plenty long enough.
    • The USDA recommends cooking pork roasts to 145 degrees F. Always use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.

Pork Roast and Apples in the Oven

You can make this dish in the oven, too. Here's how:

    • Use a Dutch oven instead of a slow cooker.
    • Layer the apples and onions on the bottom of the dish and top with the pork butt.
    • Bake at 400-degrees F for 55-65 minutes until the pork is golden brown and the apples are tender.

    Serving Suggestions

This dish can be served with rice or potatoes on the side if you like.

You can add yummy side dishes like Oven Roasted Acorn Squash or Cinnamon Butternut Squash. Both of those will complement the sweet apples and juicy pork. These Garlic Green Beans would also be a great side.
