- Unsalted Butter: Using unsalted butter allows you to control the amount of salt in the recipe.
- Kosher Salt: Add the salt to suit your tastes. You can also use sea salt.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Adds a little tangy tartness.
- Garlic: For the best flavor, use fresh garlic. Use a microplane to grate the garlic very finely.
- Black Pepper: Freshly cracked black pepper is best and enhances the rest of the ingredients.
- Parsley: Fresh herbs add the freshness that this compound butter recipe needs. You could also use sliced green onions.
Optional: If you're making this to serve with seafood, add a little bit of lemon zest and/or lemon juice to the butter mixture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about this Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse butter recipe.
Restaurants like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse often serve compound butter. It's just softened butter with a variety of herbs and spices.
There are two reasons that chefs add butter to steak. First, it's delicious. The richness of butter compliments the meat. Second, butter can make a steak more tender, especially if the steak is charred on the outside.
Tips
- Start with room-temperature butter. Never microwave the butter.
- Fresh herbs are best. While dried can be substituted, fresh will lend more flavor.
- Keep butter tightly wrapped or in an airtight container. Unfortunately, the butter will take on odors that might be in your fridge, and it will change the flavor of the compound butter.

Storage
To Store: Keep this compound butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)
To Freeze: Place the butter into a resealable freezer bag. Label and store for up to 3 months.
To Thaw: Thaw overnight in the fridge.

I love Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and the hot plate steaks but they're not one near me. I made this butter and it was almost as good as being there. Thanks!
