This DIY whipped body butter is a perfect homemade gift!

When it comes to gifts for friends and family, I love hand-making things, especially for the recipient.  There's something very special about a homemade gift, I think.  This Lemongrass Whipped Body Butter was simple to make and I'm excited to gift it for the holidays.

I start with Barlean's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.  It comes exclusively from certified-organic plantations in the Philippines where coconut palms grow naturally without pesticides. It is fair-trade and cold-pressed.  It's perfect for recipes as well as DIY beauty treatments, like this!

Hello there! I haven't tried it with unrefined cocoa butter so I'm not sure what the outcome would be.

I have read in several blogs about the right quantity of essential oil. Some say to every teaspoon add 2 drops. Is it okay? Or it's alot. I made some body butter with sheabutter coconut oil and lemongrass oil. The concentration is 500ml sheabutter 300ml coocnut oil and 5ml lemon grass oil. Is the lemomgrass oil alot? Thanks.

I think what you're asking me is the ratio of essential oil to the other ingredients... what I would say is that you want to start with around 10 drops for this recipe. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to scents. If the aroma is pleasing to you after 10 drops, then stop there. Otherwise, slowly add a few drops at a time until you get it the way you like.

Hi! I just tried this out! I had a question? I am having a hard time from keeping my body butter staying too hard or too soft!/ melting on me 🙁 What do u suggest?! Should I keep it on the fridge? I tired and then it gets too hard. But if I keep it out of the fridge it will melt on me from being too warm in the house. What do u suggest? 🙂

Hi Hannah! I don't tend to have that problem, except in the summer since I live in New England. You'll want to store it in a cool place, but not the refrigerator, since, as you said, that's too hard. I have heard of body butter stabilizing products but have not used them myself.

What other scents could you use? I’m thinking maybe mango; lavender, eucalyptus or even tangerine

Hi Debbie, any of those would work. You can use any essential oils you prefer.
I make it with peppermint for my mother-in-law who uses it on her feet. My sisters like citrus scents like orange and lemon.
