Unlike regular slime, you will not need contact solution, shaving cream, boric acid or white glue. This recipe is completely safe, even for little ones that put things in their mouths. That's because this fluffy slime recipe is edible so it's made with marshmallows, food coloring, and powdered sugar. That's it!

In honor of the patriotic summer holidays, we created this batch of edible slime in red, white, and blue with silver sparkles. Don't worry, the silver glitter is edible too!

Marshmallows, Powdered Sugar, Food Coloring & Edible Glitter is all you need for this project.

    Materials

Here are the simple ingredients and kitchen tools what you will need to make this fluffy homemade slime:

    • 12 Extra Large Marshmallows
    • 3 Cups Powdered Sugar (1 cup per 4 marshmallows)
    • Red Food Color
    • Blue Food Color
    • Edible Glitter (I used Wilton Sprinkles Sugar in Silver, also from Target.)
    • Cooking Spray
    • Microwave Safe Bowl (medium-large size bowl)
    • Baking Spatula
    • Parchment Paper
Melt the marshmallow then whip and add food coloring.

    Instructions

Here's how to make this easy fluffy slime recipe:

    1. Add the powdered sugar to a piece of parchment paper.
    2. Microwave 4 extra large marshmallows for 30 seconds.
    3. Spray your spatula with cooking spray and whip the melted marshmallows.
    4. When the marshmallow consistency is smooth add food color and stir the mixture. If a deeper color is desired simply add a few more drops of food color and stir.
    5. Pour the melted marshmallow onto the powdered sugar. Use your hands or a spoon to scoop up the sugar and dump it onto the liquid marshmallow.
    6. Allow the marshmallow to cool before playing with the fluffy slime.

    • Large Mixing Bowl (Microwave Safe Bowl)
    • Rubber Spatula
    • Baking Sheet (optional): You may want to place the parchment paper onto a rimmed baking sheet to help contain the powdered sugar.

Pour the melted marshmallow onto the powdered sugar.

Repeat the steps above for additional colors of slime and, if desired, add in edible silver glitter.

Combine the edible slime ingredients together.

    PRO MOM TIP:

If your edible marshmallow slime is too sticky, add more powdered sugar. On the flip side, you can add ½ a teaspoon of cooking oil if your fluffy slime feels a bit too dry.

    Easy Fluffy Slime

Let the real fun begin! Pass off the slime to those little hands that have patiently been waiting to stretch, shape, roll, play with, and even take a bite out of the marshmallowy fluffy slime.

Add in roller pins, cookie cutters, plastic cutlery, craft sticks, and straws for even more fun creative possibilities.

Mush and play with marshmallow slime.

How to Save Edible Marshmallow Slime

Unfortunately, this fluffy slime is not meant for repeat play past 12-24 hours. If you plan on enjoying your edible creation on day two you can preserve the slime overnight in a plastic bag or airtight container.

You will likely need to warm the slime in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before play. Just be sure it's cool to the touch before you pass it off to little hands. If needed you can add oil or powdered sugar to achieve your day two desired fluffy consistency.

    Instructions

    • Start by preparing a workspace by laying a sheet of parchment paper onto a flat surface. (A baking sheet, cutting board, craft board or even the kitchen counter would all work perfectly for this project.)
      3 Cups Powdered Sugar
    • Pour 1 cup of powdered sugar onto the parchment paper then use your hand to spread it out over the paper.
    • After that, add 4 extra large marshmallows to a medium to large size microwave-safe bowl then heat them in the microwave for 30 seconds. (The jumbo marshmallows will expand pretty quickly and will puff up rather big.)
      12 Extra Large Marshmallows
    • Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave after 30 seconds, then spray your spatula with cooking spray and whip the melted marshmallows.
    • When the marshmallow consistency is smooth add food color and stir the mixture. If a deeper color is desired simply add a few more drops of food color and stir.
      Red Food Color
    • Then pour the melted marshmallow onto the powder sugar. Use your hands or a spoon to scoop up the sugar and dump it onto the liquid marshmallow.
    • Finally, when the melted marshmallow is cool to the touch spray a layer of cooking spray on your hands then squish the marshmallow, glittery sprinkles (if using) and powdered sugar together to create easy fluffy slime.
      Edible Glitter, Cooking Spray
    • Repeat the steps for other colors.
