Truffles on platter with choices of coffee to enjoy.

    Best Homemade Truffles Recipe

This year, I'm making up some delicious homemade Mocha Truffles using coffee and creamer.  With so many coffee lovers on my Christmas list, I always stock up on Dunkin products during the holidays.

    Chocolate Truffles from Scratch

These Mocha Truffles are flavored with Dunkin' Donuts Bakery Series Chocolate Glazed Donut coffee granules. You can change the flavor of these Mocha Truffles by switching up the creamer and coffee granules you use.  Try Hazelnut, Caramel, or French Vanilla for example.

How long do homemade truffles last?

They really have a long shelf life. They will last two-three weeks refrigerated and actually freeze well also.

Pretty homemade mocha truffles on white platter.

    Can I freeze homemade truffles?

Dare I say this out loud? Make some for the holidays now and tuck in the freezer you will be soooo far ahead of the game!

The best way to freeze them is wrap each individually, then put in a ziplock bag and freeze. They will maintain their freshness this way.

What is the best chocolate for making truffles?

High quality chocolate produces better quality candies. No surprise there, right?

Milk Chocolate will make sweeter truffles, dark or semi-sweet will make the candies extra rich.

Pan with chocolate and spoon ready to roll into balls to make candy.

    🧂 Ingredients

    • chocolate chips - semi-sweet chips for extra richness
    • coffee - Dunkin' Donuts® Bakery Series Chocolate Glazed Donut coffee granules is what I used in this recipe.
    • creamer - traditionally heavy cream is used, but for these mocha truffles, I used creamer. There are a bunch of fun flavor options to choose from.

This is meant to be a brief overview of the homemade chocolate truffles recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full recipe card with ingredients that you can print, please scroll down to the teal box below or Jump to Recipe.

    🔪Instructions

    1. Whisk together the creamer and coffee granules over medium heat. When smooth add the chocolate and continue whisking.
    2. Pour the truffle mixture into a pan, cover and refrigerate.
    3. Using a spoon or a melon baller, scoop out the chocolate mixture and roll into small balls.
    4. Then roll in your topping of choice!

    What are the best toppings?

Traditionally, truffles are rolled in cocoa powder, but festive sprinkles in holiday colors make these Mocha Truffles so pretty. You can also use a variety of other ingredients such as chopped nuts, crushed candies, toasted coconut / coconut flakes, or even crushed cereal pieces.

    • chopped toasted nuts - adds a crunchy bite to the candy
    • powdered sugar - will make them melt in your mouth!
    • cocoa powder - for deep richness
    • colored sprinkles - customizable for the holiday or event!

How do you eat chocolate truffles?

These treats are special! When you enjoy these candies, take a moment to be present and savor them. Sit back with your favorite coffee.

    Sip, relax, enjoy and repeat!

They should be perfectly creamy and literally melt in your mouth.

    Too woo-woo? I don't think so, I enjoy my chocolate! 😋

These handmade decadent creamy truffles are a great gift idea, and they're perfect for parties, too.

Some of my favorite cookies to enjoy with coffee are Italian Fig Cookies or these sweet Butter Cookies. Family recipes that are tried and true!

Here are more recipes below that that are perfect dippers and great in gift baskets!

    • Funfetti Crinkle Cookies - what's more fun then colorful sprinkles in your desserts??
    • Homemade Twix Cookie - everyone loves this buttery shortbread cookie topped with caramel and drizzled with chocolate.

    Ingredients

    • 1 12 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
    • 3 tablespoons coffee granules
    • ⅓ cup creamer
    • Colored sugar sprinkles, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, for rolling
    Get Recipe Ingredients

    Instructions

    • Prepare a 9×9 pan by lightly greasing it with coconut oil.
    • On the stove top over medium heat, whisk together the creamer and coffee granules until warm.  Add the chocolate and whisk until very smooth.
    • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.  Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours, or overnight.
    • Remove the chocolate from the refrigerator and let set for 10-15 minutes. Pour your toppings for rolling into deep cereal bowls.
    • Using a spoon, scoop some of the chocolate mixture and use your hands to roll into a ball.  These are so rich, so I like to make mine just shy of an inch-round.
    • Roll the truffles into your topping of choice.  Set them into festive candy papers or mini cupcake papers.
    • Store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve or gift them.  They will keep for about 7-10 days.
    • This recipe makes about 30 truffles, so one batch can be packaged up for several gifts.  I like to use small candy boxes and decorate it with a festive ribbon.
