Butter rosettes are a great way to make any holiday meal feel a little bit more special!

Whether you use fancy butter or plain salted butter, these butter rosettes are the perfect choice for an upscale dinner or even buffet.

Not only is the beautiful butter pretty to look at, but it's just right for individual butter portions, too.

    Materials

This is meant to be a brief overview of this great recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

    • softened butter
    • piping bag
    • star tip

    🔪 Instructions

Here's how to make butter rosettes:

    1. Start with room temperature butter.
    2. Transfer the butter to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
    3. Hold the piping bag vertical.
    4. Onto a small serving dish or parchment paper lined baking tray, squeeze the butter out into a dollop that's about 1-2 inches wide.

For a fancier butter rosette, follow these steps:

    1. Hold the bag straight up and down.
    2. Pipe a small dollop of butter.
    3. Then continue piping the dough in a circle around the center to create the rosette.

(This is similar to the way that you make buttercream rosettes.)

I have seen some people use their cookie press to make rosette butter in all sorts of shapes, but I haven't tried it myself.

    ✏️ Make Ahead

To make butter rosettes ahead of time, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Pipe the rosettes using a star tip. Refridgerate until ready to use.

    🍲 Storage

To Store: Butter rosettes should be refrigerated until you're ready to serve them. For best results, allow them to harden for 1 hour, then gently transfer them to an airtight container. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)

    ⭐ Tips

✔️ Butters with large pieces of herbs or other ingredients are more difficult to pipe than fancy butter that has a smoother consistency.

✔️ Allow the butter to come to room temperature before handling. Do not attempt to melt the butter.

✔️ Star tips with a large opening are best. Extra large piping tips will also work if you're looking for a different shape.
