If you haven't tried this butter board TikTok trend yet, you're really missing out! A butter board is sort of deconstructed compound butter served with bread or crackers.

There are hundreds of flavor combinations you can make but my go-to is a version of my classic cowboy butter.

I love cowboy butter so much and I'm over the moon with my cowboy butter dipping sauce. However, this cowboy butter board might just be the easiest of them all.

❤️ Why You'll Love This Recipe

Building a butter board is quick and easy. It's a great way to entertain without a ton of prep work, and fun to make right in front of your guests.

The acid from the lemon zest helps to balance out the fattiness of the butter, but in terms of other flavors, the skys the limit when you're making a butter board!

Serve it with homemade focaccia bread, crackers, French bread, whatever you desire.

    ⭐ Tips

    ✔️ Use good quality butter.

✔️ Set the butter on the counter an hour or so before you want to build your butter board. Don't microwave the butter or it will make a melty mess!

✔️ For easy clean up, cover your cutting board with a piece of parchment paper before spreading the butter.

✔️ Be sure your butter to 'toppings' ratio is even. You want lots of toppings and just a bit of butter in each bite!

🍲 Make Ahead & Storage Info

You can make a butter board a couple hours in advance. Cover it lightly with a piece of plastic wrap and place it in the fridge. Remove from the fridge 30-45 minutes before serving so that the butter can come back up to room temperature.

Store leftovers in an airtight container. You can use leftovers to make garlic bread, flavor baked potatoes or rice, or on top of a beef roast or juicy steak.

    📖 Variations

The first time you try any new recipe we recommend that you make it just as it is written on the recipe card since that is how the recipe has been tested. However, the next time you make our recipe, you might want to try one of these ideas:

    • Swap out the sea salt for a little bit of basil salt.
    • Instead of fresh herbs, use your favorite dried seasoning mix like Italian herbs or Mediterranean spice blend.
    • Edible flowers look gorgeous and are fun to incorporate for special occasions. Dried edible flowers can be found online.
    • Make a sweet butter board with brown sugar butter, maple butter, or cinnamon honey butter.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

Serve with your favorite crackers and/or bread.

Like many compound butters, it's incredible on grilled steak, chicken, fish, and pork. This butter mixture is also delicious on pasta, potatoes, rice, roasted veggies, and much more.
