Blue Curacao is a beautiful, blue-colored liqueur that has been popular as a cocktail sweetener for quite some time. Originally from the island of Curacao, this sweet liqueur is made from the dried peel of oranges. The flavor is citrusy and sweet, making it a popular choice for summer cocktails.

Blue Curacao drinks are often brightly colored and can be garnished with fruit or mint. While delicious, they're also visually stunning.

Fun fact, this liqueur is actually colorless! The blue hue comes from blue food coloring!

You'll love these fun tropical drinks in our collection of Blue Curaçao cocktails! Cheers!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about blue curacao liquor.

    What is blue curacao?

Blue Curacao is a liqueur made with the dried peel of the bitter orange lahara. It originated on Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island where the fruit grows.
The alcohol content varies by brand, but is usually around 25% ABV.

What goes well with blue curacao?

Blue Curacao is often mixed with vodka, rum, or tequila. The sweet liqueur is wonderful with citrus like oranges, lemons, and limes.

What is the difference between Orange Curacao and Blue Curacao?

Simply put, the only difference is the color! Both have the same sweet orange flavor.

What does blue curacao taste like?

While sometimes people expect the flavor of Blue Curacao to be like a melted blue raspberry (due to the color), it's actually very citrusy. It has a sweet orange flavor with just a little hint of bitterness, which is why it pairs so well with other juices and citrus flavors.

Can you drink blue curacao straight?

Yes, but you might not want to. It's much better mixed with juices and other liquor.

Do you have to refrigerate blue curacao?

Blue Curacao does not need to be refrigerated, but it is recommended because the taste will fade over time. No matter what, it should be stored in a cool spot and out of direct sunlight so that the sugar doesn't crystalize.

How long does unopened blue curacao last?

Liquor that is unopened has an indefinite shelf life.

Are Blue Curacao and Triple Sec the same?

While they're not the same type of liquor, you can substitute one for the other. It will change the flavor of the drink a little bit because Blue Curacao is more bitter than triple sec.

What is the difference between Blue Curacao and Orange Curacao?

Blue curacao and orange curacao are different primarily only in color. In fact, the blue version is the original orange liqueur with a blue hue but both have similar fruity, floral, citrus flavor profiles.
